Although nobody here can remember back that far, documentation indicates that the UNE Outdoor Adventure Club (UNEOAC) has been around since the 1960s, and it has grown a lot in that time. Originally, we started out as the UNE Mountaineering Club (UNEMC), where we were Mountaineering with a heavy focus on climbing. But as time went by, and we expanded our focus, we made the official decision to change our name to the UNE Outdoor Adventure Club in 2008.
Over our history, we have had all kinds of expertise make its way into our club and shape the activities we run. Some of these have also grown into their own distinct clubs.
- Mountaineering
- Indoor & Outdoor Climbing
- Bouldering
- Mountain Biking
- Camping
- Hiking & Bushwalking
- Kayaking
- Canoe Polo
- Whitewater Rafting
- Paddlesports
In 1995, after much deliberation about which squash court it would go in, the Indoor Climbing Wall was established and built at SportUNE. The original climbing wall only consisted of the 4 top ropes we still have today.
It wasn’t until 2013, that the Indoor Climbing Wall underwent a major renewal to refresh our top rope walls and for the addition of a bouldering cave.

Historical Odds & Ends
Until we are able to piece together a more comprehensive history, here are some interesting odds and ends we’ve discovered about our club.
