UNE Climbing Wall

Indoor Wall Climbing

Have you ever wanted to try out climbing? Well you can at our indoor climbing gym at SportUNE.

There are two different angled walls with four ropes. There are grades ranging from beginner levels right up to advanced climbs. If you’re not a fan of heights or just don’t like ropes we also have a bouldering cave. There is something to suit everyone.

The UNEOAC members volunteer to provide supervised climbing times to the club and general public. The club supplies the basic climbing equipment as part of entry costs – harnesses and climbing shoes.

Climbing Wall Entry Cost

  • UNEOAC and SportUNE members: $6.50 per session
  • Casual/Non-Members: $8.50 per session

Supervised Climbing Nights

The wall is only available when SportUNE is open, and may be booked by conflicting events with short notice. Please check SportUNE and the UNEOAC Facebook page for changes to these times.

Club Members Climbing Night (currently closed)

Monday nights – 5:30pm until 8:30pm.
You must be a UNEOAC Club member to access the wall on Monday nights.

Public Climbing Nights

Tuesday, Wednesday and Friday – 5:30pm until 8:30pm.
There are two sessions per night: 5:30-7:00pm and 7:00pm-8:30pm.
Climbers will be rotated at 7pm if there are people waiting.

On public nights, the climbing wall is open to everyone, you do not need to be a member of either UNE OAC or SportUNE.

Children & Families

Families are welcome at the SportUNE climbing wall. However, children under the age of 16 must be supervised by a parent or guardian at all times. If anyone is unable to maintain a safe environment at the climbing wall, they may be asked to leave by the supervisor on duty.

  • We have a very limited supply of harnesses (1-2) suitable for small children. If they do not have a properly fitting harness they can only use the bouldering cave.
  • Harnesses are only required to use the top rope walls, but not in the bouldering cave
  • Children under the age of 13 are not allowed to belay another climber

Please be thoughtful about who and how many children you bring to the climbing wall, and if you are able to supervise them effectively. Climbers are not always able to see people below them or avoid anyone when falling. It is expected that everyone notices those on the wall and will avoid them and the area below them.

In particular children should not walk or play under the climbing routes, or under anyone bouldering in the cave.

Private Events

The climbing wall can also be hired out for parties, group bookings, and school groups at an additional cost. Please contact SportUNE directly for more information if you are interested in a private booking.

Where is the wall?

The climbing wall is situated in the first squash court within the SportUNE complex, at the University of New England in Armidale, NSW
